Nokia, Ericsson Expanding Local Manufacturing Ahead Of 5G Roll Out In India – Swarajya

Telecom gear suppliers Nokia and Ericsson are scaling up their manufacturing in India.

The two firms are planning capacity expansion to meet the increased demand for telecom equipment from Indian telcos.

As the Indian telecom firms are gearing for roll out of 5G services in the country, both Nokia and Ericsson have bagged deals from the telcos including Reliance Jio and Airtel for 5G network.

The firms will also help the telcos in deploying their 5G networks.

Nokia has a manufacturing facility at Chennai for 4G and 5G equipment, from where it serves both domestic as well as global customers.

“We are ready with all the 5G capability. We have 5G manufacturing at our Chennai factory. Our internal team readiness for 5G is already there,” Sanjay Malik, Nokia’s India head, was quoted by the Economic Times as saying.

He said that the company is supporting both Jio and Airtel to meet their 5G launch strategy.

Malik further added that Nokia will be ramping up manufacturing at its Chennai facility to meet the demand coming from India.

Ericsson works with Jabil in Pune to manufacture 4G and 5G gear for domestic and export-related requirements.

“We are scaling up production capability in Pune with Jabil. We would like to hit the target of meeting close to 100 per cent requirement in India from India,” Nitin Bansal, head of Ericsson India, was quoted by ET as saying.
